WARPAINT UNVEILS “HIPS” VIDEO
“Radiate Like This is arguably Warpaint's best work yet, haunting and grooving in equal measures.”—Relix WARPAINT—RADIATE LIKE THIS WARPAINT LIVE
RADIATE LIKE THIS OUT NOW
U.S. TOUR BEGINS TONIGHT
“Brimming with confidence, the dynamic release displays the band’s tangible chemistry, flowing effortlessly between swirling melodies and danceable tunes.”—Uproxx
“The record expands on the band’s signature blend of blissed-out dream pop and moody psych rock.”—Interview Magazine
“The rhythmic structures on Radiate Like This are as propulsive as ever but at every turn steer clear of overpowering the message of love and empowerment, that’s couched in their warm, hypnotic melodies. This emphasis on womanhood is the album’s satisfying throughline.”—Under the Radar
“Warpaint's telepathic musicianship is as alluring as ever on their first album in six years.”—Brooklyn Vegan
Today, celebrated L.A. quartet Warpaint shares the video for their track, “Hips,” directed by Jim Hosking—watch it here. The track is taken from Warpaint’s first album in six years, Radiate Like This, out now—listen/share here.
“’Hips’ has a scuttling intensity to it,” Hosking says. “It sounds like someone desperately trying to find something. Or at least that’s what it seemed to me. I listened to it repeatedly and kept seeing women desperately searching for each other in a seaside town. Ideas present themselves and it’s not about logic or reason, it’s about emotion. And here the emotion suggested identically dressed women finding each other in an old seaside town in England called Southend On Sea. “
“We are thrilled to share this strange and beautiful video for ‘Hips’ from the brilliant mind of Jim Hosking,” the band says. “Give it a watch.”
The band is currently on the Radiate Like This Tour, which picks back up in North America tonight at The Observatory in Santa Ana, California following a run of European dates—see full routing below and purchase tickets here. Goldensuns and JennyLee will support on upcoming dates.
Additionally, Warpaint recently appeared on From The Basement—watch their performance here.
Physically separated by the pandemic in 2020, the band began work on what would turn out to be a wholly different Warpaint album. Each musician recorded her parts separately—often in makeshift home studios—before sending on to the next, creating songs layer by layer. Deciding to delay the release until they could tour allowed them to further hone each track, spending more time building and rebuilding than they had in the past. The result is a body of work that is sharper and more focused than their previous projects but still captures what has always been the magic of Warpaint—the delicate interplay of four separate parts coalescing in motion.
Warpaint is Emily Kokal (guitar, vocals), Jenny Lee Lindberg (bass, vocals), Stella Mozgawa (drums, vocals) and Theresa Wayman (guitar, vocals). Radiate Like This follows their critically beloved debut EP Exquisite Corpse, 2010’s The Fool, 2014’s Warpaint and 2016’s Heads Up.
