BOBBY WEIR

Bobby Weir is one of the founding members of the legendary Grateful Dead. Since establishing the band in 1965, Weir has become one of rock’s most distinctive rhythm guitarists, playing a central role in shaping the sound and culture of American music. Not only did he help define the sound of a generation, but he continues to influence artists and audiences over more than five decades.

Weir’s contributions to American music have earned him widespread acclaim. In 2024, he was honored as a Kennedy Center Honors recipient, with the Grateful Dead inducted into the institution’s 47th class. In 2025, the band was named MusiCares Persons of the Year, raising a record-breaking amount to support MusiCares’ mission of providing critical health and human services to music professionals in need. Weir has also been recognized with a GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award, is an inductee of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and is a recipient of both the Les Paul Spirit Award and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Americana Music Association.

The Grateful Dead remains one of the highest-grossing touring artists of all time in America, holding a world record of 2,318 total concerts and topping Forbes’ list of top-grossing entertainers. They also hold the record for the most Billboard Top 40 albums of all time by any act in history, further cementing the band as one of the world’s most treasured musical and social phenomena.

Weir has been a founding member of Dead & Company since its formation in 2015. The band completed 10 tours, performing for more than 4 million fans across 235 shows. Dead & Company wrapped their 2023 Final Tour with three sold-out concerts at Oracle Park in San Francisco, their most successful tour yet, drawing over 840,000 fans. In 2024, Dead & Company performed a 30-show residency at Sphere in Las Vegas. Rolling Stone described the Dead Forever — Live at Sphere residency as “the most dazzling visual show in Grateful Dead history.” The band is continuing with a residency in 2025 with a multi-night run at Sphere Las Vegas through mid-May.

Weir also leads Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros, formed in 2018 with Don Was and Jay Lane, later adding Jeff Chimenti and The Wolfpack—a six-piece string and brass ensemble. The band has toured extensively throughout the U.S., performing from the Grateful Dead catalog, Weir’s solo albums, and more.

In the fall of 2022, Weir, along with Wolf Bros and The Wolfpack, launched a sold-out four-night run at the Kennedy Center with the National Symphony Orchestra. This marked the beginning of Weir’s groundbreaking symphony collaborations, which have since expanded across the U.S. to include performances with the Stanford Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, Chicago Philharmonic, and the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra at the Saenger Theater. In April 2025, Weir announced a highly anticipated show with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra at London’s Royal Albert Hall on Saturday, June 21, 2025, his first appearance at the iconic venue and his first show in London in over two decades.

In 2023, Weir released Ace: 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition, featuring a live performance with the Wolf Bros and The Wolfpack at Radio City Music Hall. His 2016 album Blue Mountain, his first solo material in over a decade, received critical acclaim from outlets like NPR Music.

Beyond his musical achievements, Weir is deeply committed to charitable work. He supports HeadCount, a non-partisan organization that uses the power of music to register voters and promote participation in democracy. He is also a strong advocate for MusiCares, providing assistance to those in the music industry during times of need. As a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Weir raises awareness and mobilizes support for the UN’s work to end poverty and combat climate change. Additionally, he is a co-founder of the Furthur Foundation, which funds environmental, social, and cultural causes through grants and partnerships.
